2024 Haldimand Job Fair Position: Electrical Engineering Technician
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm with a half hour unpaid lunch.
Duties
The Electrical Engineering Technician is responsible for analyzing, designing, programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and commissioning control programs for systems used in commercial and emergency vehicles, including Class 1 through Class 8 trucks and off-highway equipment. This role involves collaboration with other system technicians and the mechanical engineering team to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
Control Systems Development: Write and maintain PLC code, analyze, simulate, test, and document machine control systems. Experience with CoDeSys software is a plus but not required
Electrical Design: Create detailed electrical and logical schematics and wiring harness drawings using AutoCAD or similar software
System Testing: Install, test, and validate prototype systems on simulators and live vehicles. Ensure systems operate correctly and meet design specifications
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and debug PLC programs to optimize performance and resolve issues efficiently
Project Management: Organize and manage tasks to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget using Zo-Ho
Customer Support: Travel to vehicle and customer sites to gather data or provide support as needed
Process Improvement: Contribute to the development and enhancement of processes and procedures to improve engineering efficiency and accuracy
Documentation & Reporting: Log project time in Zo-Ho for accurate billing, create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, and adhere to all relevant processes and procedures
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure project success and align efforts across teams
Industry Trends: Stay informed about current and emerging engineering trends to apply the latest knowledge to your work
Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support the goals and operations of the team.
Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma/Program in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology.
- Minimum 5 years of direct work experience with Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on control experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of PLC-based machine control systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and control systems design.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar software for creating electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of Electrical Control Systems is required.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Effective project management and organizational abilities.
- Willingness to travel for on-site vehicle data collection and customer support.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work across various departments.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with engineering advancements.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office (word, excel and e-mail).
- Flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced service environment.
