There is a consistent part-time, 5-week rotating schedule. The role is scheduled to work 3 of 5 weekends, is booked off 1 of 5 weekends, and is on-call 1 of 5 weekends (on-call compensation applies). Staff are free to pick up additional open shifts at their discretion

Duties

Withdrawal Management Workers provide support to individuals withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs within a non-medical, bed-based facility. You are part of a collaborative team that ensures client safety and comfort at this early stage of their recovery. You monitor client withdrawal symptoms, administer medication as prescribed, support brief service plans and discharge plans, and assist with connection to ongoing service and supports. You make a difference!

A Withdrawal Management Worker:

  • Conducts in-person and telephone screening of clients prior to admission
  • Delivers brief, solution-focused interventions
  • Monitors withdrawal symptoms, administers medication prescribed by a Nurse Practitioner or Physician, documents client medications, and alerts medical professionals to any issues which impact client’s safe withdrawal
  • Supports client intake into the program
  • Supports implementation of client support and/or discharge plans
  • Provides individual or group psychoeducation to enhance client motivation to change
  • May be cross-trained to occasionally provide after-hours support to the Agency’s 24/7 crisis line
  • Maintains a safe and clean facility

The rotating schedule is:
Week 1: Friday OFF Saturday 4pm-8pm, Sunday 8am-4pm Monday OFF
Week 2: CALL IN
Week 3: Friday OFF Saturday 8am –4pm Sunday 7am-12pm Monday OFF
Week 4: Friday OFF Saturday 8am-4pm Sunday 7am-12pm Monday OFF
Week 5: OFF

Start date: as soon as possible

Qualifications

  • College diploma in the Human/Social Services field or specialized certificate (i.e., Personal Support Worker, Social Service Worker, Human Service Worker, Addiction Care Worker)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ combined education/experience in substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health settings, with residential experience preferred
  • Experience in management of withdrawal from substances and/or medication administration is an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to manage frequent exposure to vicarious traumatic stress
