Organic Farm Assistant: Herbs, Conservation and Agritourism - Hearts Content Organic Farm
Flexible 7-hour day shift, Monday to Friday, occasional weekends, evenings

Duties

Hearts Content Organic Farm is a small organic farm along the Brantford to Dundas rail trail. We specialize in herbs, farmstay and conservation. Richard is a retired naturopathic doctor who specializes in herbs, wildcraft and making value added herbal products (salves, lip balms, dried herbs). Ella is a retired professor of Sociology of Environment and Health. Her passion is conservation (restoring wetlands, and planting shelterbelts, mini-forest, and pollinators) and protecting farmland.
We are very dedicated to fostering an inclusive community. We…
- grow organic crops (e.g. medicinal & edible herbs, pollinators, berries & nuts),
- do wildcrafting – harvesting herbs to dry for sale to an herbal company,
- make value added products such as dried herbs, salves & lip balms,
- host farmstay (camping, glamping, and accessible suites),
- work on conservation projects (restoring wetlands, planting trees),
- work to protect farmland, natural areas, and water,
- promote ecotourism with bird and plant walks, and
- rescue and redistribute organic food, with a focus on migrant farm workers and seniors.
You would be involved in helping with the following:
- planting, cultivating & harvesting organic crops
- wildcrafting – harvesting and drying herbs,
- making value added products such as dried herbs, salves & lip balms,
- helping with caring for the grounds, campsites and farmstay units,
- planting and caring for trees and shrubs,
- assisting with birding and plant walks,
- sorting and redistributing rescued organic food,
- working to protect farmland, natural areas, and water, and outreach and social media.
- Light carpentry work
Qualifications
This is a physically demanding job, working indoors and outdoors. We will provide mentoring and work with you.
We are looking to hire someone who:
- has a healthy and positive attitude,
- can work alone or with others,
- has some farming or hands-on conservation experience, and
- is highly motivated, and who has skills with work related farming and tree care.
- Assets: Spanish speaking, experience with driving a tractor, comfortable using small tools and equipment, driver’s license, experience operating a chain saw, pruning
- 1 year of related work experience
Eligibility
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee, between 18 and 30 years
- Reliable transportation required
