Part Time can be static lines or casual relief positions from 0-44 hours per week.
Schedule may consist of days, afternoons, overnights, weekends and holidays.
Duties
Housing: SOAR Community Services offers a continuum of social housing services to meet client needs ranging from homelessness to independent living. As part of the continuum, Cornerstone House supports formerly homeless clients in preparing for semi- and independent living by providing emergency, short- and long-term accommodation. Workers in Housing assist with established support plans, apply principles of Housing First Approach, integrate harm reduction approach, help clients develop skills, keep facilities clean and secure in addition to other duties.
Withdrawal Management: Withdrawal Management Workers provide support to individuals withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs within a non-medical, bed-based facility. You are part of a collaborative team that ensures client safety and comfort at this early stage of their recovery. You monitor client withdrawal symptoms, administer medication as prescribed, support brief service plans and discharge plans, and assist with connection to ongoing service and supports.
Crisis Counsellors: Crisis Phone and Walk-in Services provide immediate support and/or counseling for individuals experiencing mental health, addictions, or situational crisis for all ages. The Crisis Counsellor will assess each situation to determine the best way to help. We are also a partner agency with 9-8-8, Canada’s official three-digit national helpline for suicide prevention and emotional distress. This service is available 24/7/365 and accessible to everyone from coast to coast to coast. The Crisis Counsellor will provide immediate assessment and support to individuals who call the 9-8-8 call line.
Qualifications
Different Programs may have enhanced requirements, minimums are as follows:
- College diploma in the Human/Social Services field or specialized certificate (i.e., Personal Support Worker, Social Service Worker, Human Service Worker, Addiction Care Worker)
- Minimum of 2 years’ combined education/experience in substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health settings, with residential experience preferred
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense
