Weekly Rotating shifts: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Duties

The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) works alongside local police services responding to 911 calls for individuals or families in a mental health/addiction or situational crisis. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will use de-escalation strategies and techniques to defuse situations and prevent further escalation, complete risk assessments alongside police to determine level of risk and safety plan with those at risk of harm towards themselves or others. This position is co-located with police service partners. 

As a Mental Health Specialist, you will:

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention services and referrals to ongoing mental health services.
  • Provide a range of accessible services including assessment, intervention, and referrals in response to crises.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and prioritize information gathered during assessment to assist with developing treatment, action, and safety plans.
  • Work in collaboration with police to respond to and assess crisis situations and transport individuals to hospital as required under the Mental Health Act.
  • Work within the crisis team and broader addiction and mental health system to advocate for and support connection to ongoing supports and build an effective community crisis response network.
  • Act as a key liaison with police services regarding knowledge exchange and relationship maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry and clinical documentation. 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related Social Services field
  • Proof of current registration in good standing with a governing body such as Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Highlight clinical experience working with individuals, groups and/or families affected by addictions and mental health conditions in your resume
  • Experience assessing safety risks and conducting safety planning and a demonstrated ability to apply relevant theoretical models when providing assessments to identify strengths, needs and level of risk, and case management
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiar with databases
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Able to manage frequent and severe exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress
  • Please also note that the successful candidate will be required to provide a police vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, however strong consideration is made to the type of offense
