37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and flexibility to meet the needs of clients and program delivery.

Duties

Community Justice Counsellors offer client-centered services that provide strength-based individual education, assessment and counselling to youth and adults involved in the legal system. The primary focus of this role would be Bail Verification and Supervision for Simcoe and Cayuga Courts and Youth Extra Judicial Sanctions.  

As a Community Justice Counsellor, you will:

  • Complete intakes, facilitate groups and meet with clients
  • Be responsible for court coverage
  • Assist in other Community Justice programs as needed and scheduled
  • Respond to client needs by providing support counselling, information and by liaising with resources, support and referral sources.

Qualifications

  • Have a college diploma in a Human/Social Services field.
  • Have a minimum 1-year combined student placement and/or paid experience working with individuals involved in the justice system.
  • Have knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
  • Have knowledge of the court system
  • Work independently
  • Build collaboration with community partners
  • Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.
  • Be able to manage occasional exposure to vicarious traumatic stress.
